Policy

Name of the Journal

  1. The name of the journal, published by the Committee on a regular basis, is [Korean Journal of Psychology: General (hereafter, the Journal)].
  2. The name of the Journal had been [Korean Journal of Psychology] since the first foundation of the Journal until 1988 (Volume 8 and Issue 1). After that, [Korean Journal of Psychology: General] has been used.

Characteristics of Journal

The Journal publishes a theoretical research, overview research that organizes arguments or settles debates, or empirical research contributing to the development of creative research. In the case of the empirical research, the publication shall be limited to data and empirical research that may be of common interest to the scholars of various sub-sectors of psychology. Decisions regarding fulfilment of the above criteria are made by the eligibility committee consisted of editor and associate editors. In addition, a special edition or session can be organized with topics that contain common interests across a variety of disciplines at sub-associations (i.e. research methodology or the topic of the Symposium held by the Association).

Publication Frequency and Time

The Journal is a quarterly journal, in principle, and published on the 25th of March, June, September, and December. If necessary, increase and decrease of the frequency of publication or the publication of special issue may be determined by the Committee.

Publication Language

For the articles contributed to the Journal, Korean shall be the primary language and English shall be allowed among other languages. If manuscript body is in Korean, abstract must be in English, while manuscript body with English should be accompanied by Korean abstract.

Review of article

  1. Selection of reviewers: within one month after the article submission deadline, the Editor-in-Chief or associate editors shall elect, by taking into account the opinions of the Editorial Committee, three reviewers for each article. Contribution qualification can be limited for the appointed reviewer, if s/he refuses the review three consecutive times.
  2. For the same article, the same reviewers can proceed up to three reviews (first review / second review / third (final) review).
  3. The request for article review: Editor-in-Chief shall mail the following documents to the elected reviewers.

  4. Reviewers shall conduct review in accordance with the standards of the Article Review Opinion Form and must submit the result of the first review to the Editor-in-Chief after reviewing the article.
  5. Evaluation of the article: the reviewers evaluate an article using the seven-point rating scale assessment approach and descriptive evaluation method.

        9. Representativeness of summary to represent the article.

        1. Theoretical importance
        2. Practical importance
        3. Creativity of the research
        4. Appropriateness of the survey of previous research
        5. Logicality of content deployment
        6. Suitability of the derived hypothesis or research question/li>
        7. Appropriateness of applying research methods
        8. Appropriateness of the induced conclusion and discussion deployment.
        9. Usefulness of the data
        10. Representativeness of summary to represent the article
        11. Length of the article
    2. Descriptive evaluations and suggestions of possible correction must address the following:
      1. Research issues
      2. Methods and procedures
      3. Results
      4. Discussion
      5. Statements regarding problems and potential improvement of miscellaneous issues or overall issues
    3. Comprehensive review: individual reviewer who evaluated the article shall select one of the following criteria:
      1. Publish without modification.
      2. Publish with minor revision
      3. Re-review by Editor-in-Chief after minor correction
      4. Re-review after major revision
      5. Rejected for publication Reviewers.
      However, in the third review, the reviewers will select one of followings: (1) Publish without modification (2) Publish with minor revision (3) Rejected for publication.
  6. Receipt of revised article: Results of review shall be notified to the contributors and the revised article and response sheet to the reviews should be received from them.
    1. The period for article revision is two months from the date of notification. However, if the author submits an application for extension, it can be extended once for three more months. The application for revision period extension should be submitted one week prior to the expiration of the article revision deadline.
    2. If revision is not submitted within three months, it shall be deemed the article contribution has been withdrawn. Therefore, when the same article is resubmitted, it shall go through the new reviewing procedures.
    3. If primary contributors wish to submit their article to a different journal after the first review, the contributors can do so. However, it is considered dual-publication and the contributor should inform the Committee of this fact. Review process is automatically revoked. If the authors wish to resubmit to the Journal, the article is considered as a new contribution and must go through the new review procedures.
  7. Authors’ revised article along with their response to reviews will be sent to the reviewers who made the decision of re-review and the reviewers will submit the second review opinion.
  8. If a decision for the third (final) review is made, contributors must submit a second revised articles and second response to the reviews. Then requests for the third review will be sent to the reviewers and the third review opinion will be received from them.
  9. Determination of the acceptance for publication
    1. After the final review of maximum three times, and acceptance for publication is determined.
    2. After the final review, if at least two reviewers chose "publish with minor revision”, acceptance is confirmed.
    3. Controversial issues, if any, will be resolved according to the decision of the Committee.
    4. If an article is considered “rejected for publication” then contributors cannot request for re-review of the article. However, in the case where the title and contents are changed, the resulting article can be submitted as a new article and go through the review process from the beginning.
    5. A confirmation of the acceptance for publication is made by the Editor-in-Chief.
  10. If an article is confirmed as “accepted for publication,” contributors of the article should revise and supplement the article and send a final article in printable form to the Editor-in-Chief. At that point, contributors shall pay article publication fee.

Complaint about the results of article review

  1. In case where contributors cannot accept the article review results, they can appeal a complaint about the results of the article review to Editor-in-Chief.
  2. Upon receipt of the appeal, the Committee shall process the appeal, by accepting letters of explanation from reviewers and contributors.

Confidentiality of the review process and results

Review articles and related information can not be disclosed to any others.

Issue of the Certificate of Publication Confirmation

The Certificate of Publication Confirmation can be issued for the article accepted for publication.

Journal Publication

Upon receipt of final article for printing, Editor-in-Chief shall select the publisher. When the first printable draft is released, contributors shall review and correct it if necessary and then send the confirmed version of the draft to the publisher directly. And when the second printable draft is released, the Committee shall review the second draft and request the publisher for final printing.

Application of the Provisions

Any other necessary matters not set forth in the regulations shall follow the customs of the Association.
